c1925 - John Trease's life insurance letter

John's life insurance payment

This photograph is of a photocopy of the letter that was handed down to descendants of George Trease who together with his brother William, to whom the letter is addressed, was joint executor of his father's estate.

Unusual for the time, John's employment, which had been as an Excise Officer, was pensionable. The proceeds from the policy, which was for a sum assured of £400, would help to continue to provide a level of income for his wife Esther after his death.

It is interesting that probate expenses of £13 0s. 8d have been deducted from the sum assured. It appears that William must have asked the Atlas Insurance Office to make a payment for Probate Expenses direct to the appropriate Government Deapartment.
