Photos: Alice & Edward Fricker Freeland | NEXT PHOTO | INDEX |
This is an unmarked 3"x4" sepia photograph on a dark green mount.
It is believed to be of Alice with her son Edward and baby
Clement. It appears to have been taken outside some "french windows" that open out onto the back garden of their house which is accessible via two steps. There are many potted plants that would have been visible from inside the garden facing room. It may have been a sheltered sunny spot where Alice liked to sit. The potted plants would have required attention and suggest that either Alice or her husband, most probably Alice, enjoyed
the garden, although Alice probably had a domestic servant to help with the hard wark of gardening.
Clement appears to be about 6 months old so the photo can be dated to late spring /
early summer 1895, and about the time they moved to 18 Wills Street, Hunters Road, Handsworth.
