Beatrice Ruth Freeland and Eliza Freeland

This photograph was taken at a wedding in the 1950s. Edward's second wife, Beatrice, stands centre right. After Edward died, she looked after her father in law, Edward Fricker Freeland, who was in hospital that day and unable to attend.

The shorter lady standing next to her, centre left, is Eliza, Edward Fricker Freeland's younger sister. Eliza was one of the daughters for whom Alice Trease acted as governess in the 1880s and who was also recorded living with Edward and Alice in 1901. Eliza would thus have had close contact with Alice over many years and must have known her very well.
