James Trease's gravestone in Warbstow churchyard

James Trease's gravesstone James Trease is thought to have been living with his daughter Dorothy's family at Rosecare, St Gennys when he died. Dorothy had married William Sandercock, a tailor and shopkeeper, four years earlier and by then had three children - the youngest, Elizabeth, having been born shortly before her father's death.

James's grave is alongside that of his wife Elizabeth and their youngest daughter Grace. The headstone bears the inscription:-

Affectionate Remembrance

JAMES TREASE
Who died at Rose-care,
in the Parish of St Gennys.

4th JULY 1880,
Aged 65 years.
