The Firs, Kimberley

This is a copy of a photograph which was in the possession of the late Gordon (Bill) Trease. The original photo is a 6.5"x4.5" print with high gloss set in grey/green cardboard mount. No markings.

A Victorian House complete with patio gas lamps - no people in view. Taken on a midsummer's afternoon. Very evocative, you can almost feel the still hot air around you.

Ivan Payne said his Aunt Ethel "loved the place". You can understand why. It is a beautifully proportioned house. It was of great historical interest as it was one of the first houses to have ducted warm air heating. Regrettably despite a local fight to save it, it was pulled down by the local council who had taken it over. This appears to be one of the few surviving photos of it taken in its heyday.
