Edith - Nottingham Postcard

Above is a photograph of a sepia coloured postcard which was in Florence Clement (nee Trease) 's collection of postcards held by the late Ivan Payne. It shows the back of Edith's 1913 home in Nottingham. The postcard is entitled "Derby Road and Entrance to Park, Nottingham. Edith has written in ink a mark over the houses at the end of the terrace. The distortion is due to the postcard being slightly bent when photographed.

The reverse of the card is shown below.

NOTES:

Edith refers to "we" so appears not to be alone. She had invested her inheritance in property which would give her a secure and steady income. It seems unlikely that she would pay rent for lodging in property owned by others, and far more likely that she would live in one of her own properties in the area and sublet to a lodger or invite a friend to stay.

The Derek she refers to is the baby son of brother Will and his wife Corrie who has been taken ill. Sadly Derek died later in the year.
