Photograph of Ferndale, Stockfield Road, Acocks Green?

Ferndale, Stockfield Road

This is a copy of a photograph which was in the possession of the late Marjorie Mitchell. The original was a sepia photograph measuring 4.25" x 6" and mounted on a grey stippled card measuring 9.25" x 6.75" with no marking or identification. The house is built in a similar "Arts and Crafts" style to those in Malvern Road that can be seen in this postcard.

The house obviously featured in William's family but whose house was it? It is surmised that it may be William's house "Ferndale" in Stockfield Road. If so, it may have been built by Mr West, the builder who also lived in Stockfeld Road, and whose Solicitors sent William Trease a draft contract in October 1898 for the construction of the pair of Malvern Road semis.

In the April 1901 census, William is listed as a retired commercial traveller living at "Ferndale", Stockfield Road, Acocks Green with his two unmarried daughters, Polly and Louie, who have no occupation but are presumably attending to all the housework.
