FAMILY OF RICHARD TREISE and MARY PEARCE The first record of Richard TREISE in St. Dominic is the baptism of William son of Richard and Mary TREISE in 1771. At his death in 1807 his age is given as 59 indicating he was born about 1748. He was born elsewhere and may be the son of Andrew and Anne Treise or Charles and Mary Treise nee Haye, both of Callington, or the son of Peter and Joan Trease of St Gennys. The subsequent lives of neither of the Richards born in Callington have been traced so it is felt most probable that this Richard is the son of one of them. As Richard names one son Andrew it is felt most likely that he is the son of Andrew and Anne. However he names another son James which is not a christian name used elsewhere in that branch of the family but which is used by Charles's branch who do not use the name Andrew. However if he was the son of Charles you would think it likely that he would name one son after his father so on that basis and until further evidence comes to light it is felt more probable that he is the son of Andrew and Anne. FAMILY OF WILLIAM TREAIS and GEORGINA BALL JACKMAN William Treais is the son of Richard and Mary Treais nee Hawton and the grandson of William and Charlotte Treais nee Couch. Like his distant uncle Andrew he marries a Jackman and becomes a grocer. For several years he ran a grocer's shop in Fore Street Callington, next door to a greengrocers run by his cousin Henry Treais. He may have sold home made sodapop from the shop as the 'Bulls Head Inn' in Callington had a soda bottle with the name 'Treais' on it. As can be seen from this extract from the April 2014 Callington Heritage Centre newsletter, his shop was only a few yards from the Bull's Head. In 1907 shortly after his cousin Henry died, he emigrated to USA. All of his family followed some time later with the exception of his son Rodney who became a railwayman in Callington. William may have returned to England in his old age. William TREAIS 1860 b.
