George Albert was born in Loughborough, Leicestershire during 1873 the son of
George and Annie Upton
and the grandson of
John and Esther Whitehouse.
He worked all his life in the family Wine and Spirits business, Weavers of Nottingham, taking over on his father’s death during 1907
when he was 34 years old. During 1901, when he was 28 years old, he married Florence Dale, who was about a year younger, in Lenton,
Nottingham. She was the daughter of Dr Frederick Dale and Mary nee Weatherhill.
George Albert and Florence had three children, all sons.
George Albert died in Nottingham during 1932, age 59. Florence died in Chilwell, Nottinghamshire, age 80, during 1955.
- son George Edward was born in Nottingham during 1902. He trained in Pharmaceutical
Chemistry and Pharmacy and spent his entire career at the University of Nottingham (and its predecessor the University College) where he
became Professor of Pharmacognosy and Head of the Department of Pharmacy.
- son Frederick William was born in Nottingham during 1905. ‘Bill’, as he was known, worked all his life in the family Wine and
Spirit
business, Weavers of
Nottingham, taking over on his father’s death during 1932 when he was 27 years old.
- son Robert Geoffrey LINK TO WIKIPEDIA was born in Nottingham during 1909. ‘Geoffrey’ as he was always known became an author, particularly of
children’s’ books.
PLEASE NOTE: WIKIPEDIA gives excellent information about his books but as at March 2008 there are a couple of inaccuracies about his family history -
his grandfather was not a historian and the junior school house at
Nottingham High School was named TREASE in honour of his uncle Reginald Ernest Trease DSO MC.
