John Henry was born during 1875 in Loughborough the son of
George and Annie Upton
and the grandson of
John and Esther Whitehouse.
John was an Incorporated Accountant and Stockbroker with his own business in Nottingham. He was also a County Councillor and Justice of
the Peace.
During 1908, when he was 33 years old, he married Ethel Margaret Paget who was then 27 years old. She was a daughter of John
Thomas Paget
and a Mary Ann nee White who had married during 1873 in Burton-on-Trent. They had at least eight children, four sons and four daughters
before John’s death sometime, as yet unknown, between 1881 and 1891. In 1891 the family lived at ‘The Beeches’, Leicester Road,
Loughborough.
John and Ethel had three children, a son and two daughters, but no grandchildren.
Ethel died during 1935 at Radcliffe, Nottinghamshire, age 54, and John died there during 1956, age 80.
- son John Paget was born during 1909 at Radcliffe-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire.
He was a Chartered Accountant. He remained a bachelor all his life. He joined first the Territorial Army and then the Army during 1939
and was commissioned into the Royal Signals during 1940. He served in North Africa, Sicily, Southern and Northern Italy, being appointed a
Major during 1945. At his father’s request he left the Army and returned to Nottingham to take over the family Accountancy business from
his father. He died at Radcliffe-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire.
- daughter Joan Mary was born during 1911 at Radcliffe-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. She remained a spinster all her life and was a
teacher including 20 years at Kingsmead College, Johannesburg, South Africa. On return to England she lived in Lindfield, Sussex near her
sister Dorothy. She died at Haywards Heath, West Sussex .
- daughter Dorothy was born during 1918 at Radcliffe-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. She was profoundly deaf and remained a spinster all
her life. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant and lived most of her life at Warninglid, West Sussex. She died at Haywards Heath, West
Sussex.
