Amelia Gynn was born during 1845, the daughter of
James Trease and Elizabeth Gynn
and a granddaughter of
William Trease and Martha Uglow.
On her 18th birthday she married Julius Francis Bone of Jacobstow, then 21 years old, at
Warbstow Church.
Shortly afterwards they left Cornwall for New Zealand with Amelia’s eldest brother William and her cousin William Gynn but, like them,
they left the ship at Port Phillip Bay, Australia in February 1864. Amelia and Julius settled in Ballarat where they had two children:-
- Julius Francis Bone who was born in June 1864 but died eight months later and was buried in Ballarat cemetery.
- William Trease Bone who was born in 1865. He married Annie Dunstan about 1890 but she died in 1892 in Caulfield Victoria. William died in Glenhuntly Victoria in 1924.
There appear to be no descendants.
In October 1866, Amelia’s husband Julius was killed, aged only 23, in a mining accident at the Bank of Hope Company’s No 3 shaft, Sebastopol.
During 1868 Amelia, who was then 22, re-married in Ballarat, Thomas Woolcock, aged about 27, who had been born in Camborne, Cornwall, England.
They appear to have had seven children, four sons and three daughters:-
- Thomas Woolcock who was born in 1868. He married Helena Baxter and there are descendants from this marriage.
- Annie Woolcock who was born in 1871. She married John Bray in 1892 and died in Geelong in 1917.
There are descendants from this marriage.
- Amy Woolcock who was born in 1875. She married Lewis John McTaggart in Ballarat in 1898.
They had eight children, 5 sons and 3 daughters, some of whom married and had children. Amy died in Kyabram in 1934.
- John Woolcock (“Jack”) who was born in 1877. He married Annetta Frances Moss (nee Annie Thomson) in Ballarat in 1902.
They had three children, 1 son and two girls, all of whom appear to have married and had children. Jack died in 1956.
- Emily Ethel Woolcock who was born in 1883. She married James Henry Odgers in 1905 and died in Ballarat in 1936.
They had two sons and two daughters – one of whom is known to have married.
- Richard James Woolcock who was born in 1884. He married Alice May Freeman in 1913 and had 6 children, 3 sons and 3 daughters,
some of whom married. He is believed to have died in 1961.
- Amos Woolcock who was born in 1885? He married Violet May Goode in 1913? They appear to have had at least 3 children,
two sons and a daughter, some of whom married. Amos died in Box Hill, Victoria in 1965.
Amelia died during 1903, age 57 in Ballarat and her husband Thomas died there during 1908, aged about 67.
