North London Introduction | Codes

Over time, London/Greater London has absorbed many places formerly in Middlesex, Surrey, Essex and Kent. The county of Middlesex, has been totally absorbed and ceases to exist as an administrative county.

To avoid such places appearing in both a Greater London index and a county index, they are indexed once under their former county, so you need to know their original county to find them. If you don`t know the original county : -

For places NORTH of the river Thames and WEST of the City try
MIDDLESEX & CITY of LONDON.

For places NORTH of the river Thames and EAST of the City try ESSEX.

The places in the City of London, look in MIDDLESEX & CITY of LONDON

For places SOUTH of the river Thames and WEST of Greenwich try SURREY.

For places SOUTH of the river Thames and EAST of Rotherhithe try KENT.

NOTE: Middlesex, City of London, and Essex are on a web page for London North. Surrey and Kent are on a web page for London South. You can therefore do single page searches for the whole of the North or South of London and the neighbouring counties.
