Over time, London/Greater London has absorbed many places formerly in Middlesex, Surrey, Essex and Kent. The county of Middlesex, has been totally absorbed and ceases to exist as an administrative county.
To avoid such places appearing in both a Greater London index and a county index, they are indexed once under their former county, so you need to know their original county to find them. If you don`t know the original county : -
For places NORTH of the river Thames and WEST of the City try MIDDLESEX & CITY of LONDON.
For places NORTH of the river Thames and EAST of the City try ESSEX.
The places in the City of London, look in MIDDLESEX & CITY of LONDON
For places SOUTH of the river Thames and WEST of Greenwich try SURREY.
For places SOUTH of the river Thames and EAST of Rotherhithe try KENT.

The surname TRICE is common throughout Kent but has so far never been found to be a TREASE surname variant so is not included in these lists, whereas the version with the Z sounding ending - TRIES - is included as it is known to have been used as a Trease variant in Stoke Climsland, Cornwall.
The surname TERRIS/TERRAS also occurs frequently but likewise has been ignored.
TRAY is also found, particularly in early parish records, but is generally not included.
A family named TRAY lived in Greenwich at the same time as a TREAYS family who sometimes get recorded as TRAY.
