Where known, the family group to which the reference is thought to refer is shown by a family code in square brackets [ ] using Family Codes.
PLEASE NOTE that, as with all other source information given on this website, the information has been copied from indexes and document transcriptions.
If you intend to use this information you are advised that inspection of the original records is essential to determine its veracity.
In 1837 compulsory registration of UK births, marriages, and deaths replaced the baptisms, marriages, and burials recorded in church registers as the most reliable source of genealogical information. Registration districts covered larger areas than church parishes. As far as possible, the church parish is retained here as a consistent geographical location. Where a component parish has moved between Registration Districts, it will normally be found under the first Registration District to which it was allocated. Often the UK county boundaries in place in 2009 are used, thus North Petherwin
will be found under Cornwall not Devon. However, London parishes will normally be found under the county in which they were administered in 1837, e.g.
Lambeth will be found in Surrey.
