These pages provide tentative family trees, supported by source data, for families possibly connected by marriage to the Trease family.

Source data is grouped by family and the document from which it is derived is appended in italics. However, different interpretations of the information could place the person to whom it refers in another family and the information shown may be inaccurate e.g. it may have been transcribed incorrectly or the source document itself may simply be wrong.

RETURN TO INTRODUCTION OR FAMILY OF JOHN TRAYES AND FLORENCE BLAKE... OR ....JOHN AND MARY TREASE

BLAKE INFORMATION SOURCES (incomplete)

The BLAKE and TRAYES families did at some stage live in St Teath village at properties adjacent to one another as can be seen by the 1841 Tithe Map
courtesy of the excellent and informative St Teath village website.

1712	John Blake Blacksmith	Admon,Inv,(AP/B/2820 1712)
On the North Wall of St Teath church is a large rectangular gravestone which has been partly transcribed :-
"Here Lyeth the Body of John Blake who was buryed the 22nd day of December"(inscribed round left, top, and right edges)
... Remembrance of my ... (inscribed in middle of gravestone - photograph is unclear but on site view may unravel wording)
1721	John Blake Admon (AP/B/3055)
1774	Thomas Blak Yeoman	Admon (AP/B/4365)
1774	Elizabeth Blake Testamentary citation (ARD/156/910). Possibly connected with Thomas's administration of 1774.
1776	Alice Blake Spinster	Refused Administration and wrapper (AP/B/4405)
1787	Elizabeth Blake	Widow	Will (AP/B/4638)
1787 Thomas Blake Admon (AP/B/4639) No matching burial at St Teath. Possibly connected with Elizabeth's will of 1787.
1799	Elizabeth Blake widow	Admon (AP/B/4870)

Unfortunately the BLAKE family did not leave Wills. There seems to have been a dispute over the estate of Thomas who died in 1772.
The Elizabeth Blake widow whose will was proved in 1787 may be a second wife of Thomas. If so a possible candidate may be the Elizabeth
MARTYN who married Thomas BLAKE in Lezant in 1740. Not directly relevant to TREASE family history but worth a look if time.

Thomas .... Cordwainer

and Coppin sureties

Pre printed Administration Bond document. Insertions shown in italics

Know all men ... Thomas Blake of the parish of St Teath in the county of Cornwall cordwainer Nicholas Phillips of the same carpenter and William Coppin of the parish of Cardinham in the same County Yeoman ... the worshipful John Sleech Master of Arts and Archdeacon of the Archdeaconry of Cornwall lawfully constituted in the sum of fifty pounds ... 18th day of January in the 24th year of the reign of George II 1750 AD

The Condition .... the above bounden Thomas Blake the son and administrator of Thomas Blake late of the parish of St Teath intestate deceased In presence of Geo: Browne

Thomas Blake
Nicholas Phillipps
William Coppin

NOTE
This Bond was taken out 10 days after the burial of "Mary Trayes, wife of Thomas" on the 8th January and was no doubt prompted by her death rather than that of her husband who appears to have died almost 8 years earlier in 1742. Interestingly the clerks preferred to retain the standard legal wording of "Thomas Blake lately deceased" rather than risk changing it.
The second surety William COPPIN of Cardinham is probably related to the Thomas COPPIN of Cardinham who was second surety for the Bond taken out re John BLAKE in 1813.

NOTE
The second surety Thomas COPPIN of Cardinham is probably related to the William COPPIN of Cardinham who was second surety for the Bond taken out by Thomas BLAKE in 1750 in respect of Thomas Blake's estate. May be they are related to the Blakes in some way. Interestingly Thomas COPPIN was also second surety for the 1809 bond taken out by Ann BROAD nee TREASE in respect of the estate of her second husband. Thomas COPPIN must have known both families and this in turn implies a link between the families as yet unknown.

The above tree matches Humphrey Blake's 1719 will. Baptismal records alone have been found for brothers Stephen and Barnard, who are not mentioned in the will and possibly died unmarried, maybe as infants. Records for brother John's marriage and baptisms for his children who receive bequests have not been identified for certain. Sisters Blandinah and Philippa are alive but unmarried in 1718 and Rebecca has recently remarried to Thomas Lander.

The trees below have several interpretations: -
1. The Humphrey who married Blanch in 1718 may be the same Humphrey who married Dorothy in 1725. If he was the same person then son Humphrey c. 25Apr1725 must have died before son Humphrey c. 28May1726 and wife Blanch must have died before his second marriage 05Mar1725/6?. The baptism of son Francis by his first wife recorded on 15Jan1727 after his second marriage could be explained by being a late baptism. On balance it is thought more likely that they are different but related both to each other and Humphrey of the above tree.
2. The Humphrey who married Dorothy BENNETT in 1725 may be the same Humphrey who married Elizabeth LUCAS in 1707 (in above tree). Elizabeth died in 1723 so date of marriage is appropriate and both Humphreys are fullers. Son Humphrey is born in Michaelstow, parish of his mother's parents, as often happens with the first child at that time possibly because of the risks of childbirth complications. Son Humfrey moves to Michaelstow after his father dies - the AUDRIDG family appear to also be fullers as there is an earlier will of an AUDRIDG described as a fuller of Michaelstow.
