Michael was christened the son of Michael and Thamsyn Trease of North Petherwin in January 1619 and is almost certainly related to and possibly a grandson of William Trease of North Petherwin , the son of Michael and Margery who farmed Pattacott.

In 1641 Michael is recorded at Pattacott as Michael Trease junior alongside his father Michael Trease senior. When his father died in 1645 he received bequests additional to the £10 which was granted to all the brothers. He appears to be the oldest son and to have continued to farm at Pattacott possibly with some housekeeping assistance from his two sisters Anne and Elizabeth, neither of whom appears to have married. At a date unknown Michael married Elizabeth who was the mother of daughter Gertude (baptised in 1658) and possibly another daughter called Elizabeth who may have died in 1660. He also had an older child Michael who appears to have been born in the early 1640s and who may have been the son of Elizabeth or an earlier wife of Michael's. The gap thought to be about 15 years between the birth of Michael and Gertrude is large enough for many other children to have been born, one or more of whom may have survived and be related to other Trease families who appear nearby in following years.

When his Aunt Dorothy's husband, Degory Doubt, died in 1660, Michael, along with two others, carried out the inventory of his goods. In 1670 his wife Elizabeth died and was buried in St Mary's church in Launceston. This was only twelve years after the baptism of her daughter Gertrude so it seems she died young. It is thought that she was buried in Launceston to be with the rest of her paternal family who may possibly have been an "important" family who came from Launceston. After she died, Michael revised the Lease for Pattacott for the life of himself and his son Michael only. In 1680 he himself died, aged about 60, and was buried in North Petherwin.

Michael had two children we know of plus a possible further daughter who is thought to have died in 1660 but it seems likely that there were others whose identity has yet to be found :-
