Jane, from Census Returns, was born 1810/11 probably in Manaccan, Cornwall, the daughter of
William and Martha Uglow
and granddaughter of
John and Ann Smeeth. As yet neither the date nor place of her birth is
accurately known.
Presumably during the first decade of her life she lived and travelled with her mother and father about Cornwall until his
retirement to Tresmeer during 1820.
During 1832 when she was about 21 years old she married in

After their marriage Richard and Jane appear to have lived first in Whitstone where Richard worked as a farmer living at
Pethicks Farm and
later became a shoemaker living at Hill Cottage. Sometime after 1855 the family moved to
Fuges, Week St Mary where Richard continued working
as a shoemaker.
During their married life Richard and Jane had at least 9 children, two of whom became shoemakers like their father, Richard junior in
Week St Mary and James in Minster. All four brothers, Richard junior, James, Joseph Trease Parsons and William Trease Parsons produced
similarly large families, 10, 8, 10, and 11 children respectively! As yet the full descent to the present day has not been traced but it is
thought likely that Richard and Jane are probably related to and in many cases the ancestors of those named Parsons born since then in
that area of Cornwall.
Richard died aged 74 at Fuges Week St Mary on 15th November 1882. His death was registered by William Carr, his son-in-law, who was living at
Fuges. Richard's occupation on the death certificate was described as farmer and shoemaker. Jane survived Richard for approximately 8 years

year younger. At present her surname, exact date and place of birth and parentage are unknown, as is the date and place of their marriage.

of a John Broad, tailor but at present her exact date and place of birth are unknown, as is the date and place of their marriage.
